Count down to Christmas with Cathedral Music Trust

1 December 2021

Cathedral Music Trust is delighted to announce the launch of its digital Advent Calendar to help listeners count down to Christmas 2021.

With 24 recordings – one for each day of Advent - featuring performances by young choristers, choral scholars, choirs, organists and choir directors drawn from across the UK, this calendar will be a fantastic showcase of the incredible skill of the many thousands who are involved in helping cathedral music thrive every day of the year.

This year, the Trust are thrilled to be supported with a matched funding pledge of £25,000 towards its campaign ‘Open a door of opportunity this Christmas’, which will mean that every donation made between 30 November and 31 December 2021 will have twice the impact.

Every gift received will be put towards the Trust’s work encouraging and supporting excellence and best practice, as well as working to support young choral singers from all backgrounds to secure the future of cathedral music. At the heart of this is their grant funding programme, which will see the Trust seek to disburse nearly £500,000 in funding to support cathedral choirs across the UK in 2022.

Cathedral Music Trust’s Ambassador Alexander Armstrong commented:

“We’re excited to be launching our new Digital Advent Calendar which we hope will help spread some seasonal cheer, whilst helping Cathedral Music Trust open more doors of opportunity for young people to benefit from the extraordinary experience of being part of a cathedral choir.

I would also like to say a special thank you to all musicians who have generously volunteered their time to help us create this calendar in celebration of such a worthy cause.”

Natasha Morris, Development Director of Cathedral Music Trust, said:

“At Cathedral Music Trust we passionately believe that all young people, regardless of circumstance or background, should have equal access to high-quality inspiring music-making opportunities within cathedral music. This is why the opportunity to have donations doubled through our 2021 Christmas Campaign is more important than ever.”
