Who We Are

A Voice for Cathedral Music

Cathedral Music Trust emerged in 2020, building on the remarkable work of Friends of Cathedral Music – launched by Rev Ronald Sibthorp in 1956 to help preserve this integral part of our nation's cultural heritage. Cathedral music encompasses sacred choral and organ music performed in a traditional liturgical context – such as in an Anglican or Catholic cathedral, minster or parish church.

The Cathedral Music Trust family comprises over 3,000 supporters whose generosity enables us to continue supporting choirs in need. Working towards our mission, we aim to increase public awareness and appreciation of cathedral music, support and encourage all those involved in making cathedral music, and extend our range of grants to choirs and choral foundations.

Quote from Guildford Cathedral: Worship and music being the heart of cathedral life, this grant has kept it beating.

What We Do

We aim to enrich the present, and secure the future of cathedral music – by campaigning on behalf of cathedral music and musicians, supporting choirs in need through our grants programmes, and encouraging the pursuit of excellence in sacred choral and organ music. Our wonderful volunteers also run events – both locally and nationally – giving supporters behind-the-scenes access to the country's finest choirs and cathedrals.
