Chester Cathedral Gathering

Chester Cathedral Exterior
Join us for an afternoon of music and discovery at Chester Cathedral, a former Benedictine Abbey dedicated to St Werburgh.

Will you be looking for something to do in the quiet days after Christmas and New Year? Why not join us in Chester on Saturday 13th January 2024, for an opportunity to explore this fine and fascinating red sandstone cathedral, originally built as a Benedictine Monastery, and learn more about the wonderful music that can be heard there every day. The Cathedral site includes the beautiful cloisters and many of the original monastery buildings.

The afternoon will include guided tours of the cathedral, the opportunity to attend the choir’s rehearsal and subsequent Choral Evensong, followed by a drinks and canapes reception. We will also be treated to a private presentation and mini organ recital by members of the music department.

The standard of music in Chester Cathedral is excellent, staffed by the Organist and Master of the Choristers, Philip Rushforth, Alexander Lanigan-Palotai, the Sub-Organist, and newly appointed Head of Music Outreach and Third Organist, Daniel Mathieson.

The Cathedral Refectory is highly recommended and will be open all day for meals and snacks.

Sales end at 2pm on Saturday 6 January 2024. If you have issues booking online, please call us on 020 3151 6096 during office hours (9am-4pm, Mon-Fri). View our event refunds policy.
