Launching #ServicesAtSunset: A celebration of Evensong and Vespers

8 September 2021

For centuries Choral Evensong and Vespers services have nourished individuals and communities through the offering of world-class music and spiritual reflection each day.

Coinciding with the start of a new academic year and to mark the welcome return of congregational singing, Cathedral Music Trust is launching a nationwide campaign celebrating choral services sung daily by choral foundations across the UK and Republic of Ireland. #ServicesAtSunset aims to encourage individuals to step into their local cathedrals, chapels and churches to experience and engage with this transcendent cultural experience for themselves.

With nutshell guides to Evensong and Vespers to be made available on the Cathedral Music Trust website and further information released on social media throughout the Autumn, the Trust will be sharing a range of resources to help people on their way.

“We hope the campaign will shine a light on choral services nationally, helping choirs and choral foundations broaden their mission and musical engagement with communities as they begin the new academic year singing daily services, some for the first time since the beginning of 2020.”

“We want the nation to fall in love with our cathedral, chapel and church choirs again, and experience these peaceful choral services of music and prayer anew.”
Alexander Armstrong, Ambassador for Cathedral Music Trust

Get involved and share what you love about evensong and vespers with Alexander Armstrong via social media with the hashtag #ServicesAtSunset or by emailing your stories to [email protected]

It is hoped that this initiative will become an annual event and will encourage more and more people to explore these beautiful choral services this year and beyond.
