Applying for a Chorister Support Grant

Who may apply?

The funds for FCM Chorister Support Grants are for the exclusive benefit of boy and girl choristers.

Choral foundations may apply on behalf of one or more choristers whose families are experiencing severe financial difficulties.  Applications must be made by the Director of Music or the choir school, not by the family of the choristers themselves.  Awards for successful applicants will be paid to the school or choral foundation, not directly to the family.

What can I apply for?

Choral foundations may apply for an FCM Chorister Support Grant to help families in challenging financial circumstances meet the costs of school fees or transport costs to and from the choral foundation.  Grants will only be awarded in the most extreme circumstances (i.e. when the chorister’s family’s financial circumstances threaten to prevent their continuing or taking up a choristership).  A grant is awarded for one year only.  Should support be required in future years, a new application must be made.

All applications must be for a specific amount for a specific chorister; applications as part of a general fundraising campaign will not be considered.

How much can I apply for?

Choral foundations can apply for any amount up to £5,000.

How do I apply?

Applications must be submitted using FCM’s online Chorister Support Grant Application Form, which can be accessed via the button at the bottom of this page.   The deadline for applications is 30 November but, in the event of urgent need at other times of the year, please contact the Grants Secretary.  You will receive an acknowledgement of a submitted application, so please contact us if you have submitted an application and not received a response.  Any subsequent correspondence about your application should be sent to the Grants Secretary.

When will I hear if my application has been successful?

We respond as promptly as possible to applications.  FCM’s decision is final. The Grants Secretary will give feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

How does FCM monitor the impact of my grant?

FCM will require a short report at the end of the grant term explaining what has been achieved.  If FCM considers that an award has not been used for its intended purpose, or if the organisation fails to supply requested information or comply with the conditions of the grant, FCM reserves the right to request repayment of the sum originally awarded.

Further questions?
